Top 10 Things a Traveler Forgets to Pack

During our 20+ years in healthcare staffing, we've heard travelers forgetting a wide variety of items when packing for a contract assignment. Today we'll give you the 10 most common items that Travelers forget
- Climate Appropriate Clothing - Before heading out the door for your next traveling adventure, take some time to review the climate history of your destination. It might be 70 degrees and sunny when you arrive, but in 2 months, what will the weatherman be reporting? A little planning goes a long way and warm clothes are much cheaper OUT of season!
- Bed Sheets and Pillows - Most travelers find they have a better night's rest sleeping on their own bedding and pillows. And when sleep is 25% of your day, we understand why so many travelers are particular about their bedding!
- DVD Player - DVD players are not a standard item provided by corporate housing companies. So don't forget to pack your DVD player and a few of your favorite movies for the trip.
- Your State License Card - Depending on the facility, the manager may ask for your state license. They typically post the state issued license cards somewhere in the department. Not having your license can make a very awkward first day!
- Scrubs and/or Dress Code Clothing - Make sure you know what the facility dress code is prior to packing. Some facilities require scrubs, while others might enforce a khaki pant/polo shirt (business casual) dress code.
- Cell Phone Charger - As much as you might hate to admit it, your cell phone is a huge part of your life. A dead phone is nothing more than an expensive paper weight and you definitely don't want those long distance fees associated with hard lines. This covers both the travel charger for the car, as well as, the wall charger.
- Toothbrush and Toothpaste - We know that brushing your teeth is the last thing you do before you leave the house, but this time, throw them in your suit case and not back in the toothbrush holder. You don't want to show up for the first day of your new assignment with smelly breath!
- Slippers or Flip Flops - After work you will really appreciate having a pair of flip flops to throw on for running quick errands or a pair of slippers to keep your feet warm on chilly nights. When traveling away from home, it's the little things that really make the biggest difference!
- Reservation Number or Move In instructions - Nothing is worse than finally arriving at your new destination ready to relax and you realize you've forgotten your reservation or move in instructions! Make sure that your housing documents are easily accessible before you head out for your assignment. This information should also include an address and phone number.
- Picture of a Loved One - Make your temporary accommodations feel a little more like home by bringing a picture(s) of your friends and family.
